Many Bollywood actors including Abhishek Bachchan, Sushmita Sen, Arshad Warsi and Bobby Deol made their OTT debut in 2020. Manoj Bajpayee, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi have been other actors who are seamlessly straddling films and web series.
When OTTplay got in touch with Vidya Balan, who had two back-to-back OTT film releases in Shakuntala Devi and Sherni, we just had to ask her if she was planning to make her web series debut anytime soon. The actress, denying the same, stated that she hasn’t received anything exciting to date, despite being offered a number of web shows in the past. Vidya shares, “I have been offered a lot in terms of series so far but nothing excited me enough to take the plunge to do a long-format show because it’s a huge time commitment. Hopefully, someday, someone will excite me with the script.”
When we asked Vidya what would get her to agree to work in a web series, she said, “I don’t have any ideas. People will have to excite me with theirs.”
The actress is not averse to being a part of the small screen. Vidya Balan is among the few actors who made their acting debut in the Hindi film industry after working in a television show. She was a part of the classic TV show Hum Paanch, playing the role of Radhika Mathur in the sitcom.
After her short film Natkhat, Shakuntala Devi and Sherni, Vidya will be reuniting with Tumhari Sulu director Suresh Triveni for a project.
Meanwhile, Vidya’s latest offering Sherni, which was released on Amazon Prime Video on June 18, 2021 has opened to fantastic reviews from the audience and the critics. The Amit Masurkar directorial also stars talented actors like Vijay Raaz, Neeraj Kabi, Sharat Saxena, Brijendra Kala and Ila Arun among others.
