Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan is defying convention. The opening for Jawan in Tamil Nadu is expected to be bigger than most Tamil movies.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie Jawan is set for an earth-shattering opening at the box office. And the trade is taken by surprise especially the amount of interest that Jawan, an original Hindi movie, is garnering in Tamil Nadu.
Historically, Tamil Nadu has not been known for providing massive openings to Hindi films. Despite its vibrant film industry, the Tamil audience tends to take some time to embrace movies from other languages immediately upon release, often relying on strong reviews to lure them into cinema halls.
Jawan is set for huge opening in Tamil Nadu
However, Jawan is defying convention. The opening for Jawan in the state is expected to be bigger than most Tamil movies. "It will be on par with a Dhanush or STR movie," Rakesh Gowthaman, owner of Vettri Theatres in Chennai. told OTTplay
Even though Jawan is boasting an ensemble cast and crew of Tamil cinema's leading stars, including director Atlee, music composer Anirudh, and actors Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, and Priyaman, industry experts beleieve that there is an even more compelling reason behind the film's "unprecedented" advance bookings in Tamil Nadu.
The Thalapathy Vijay factor
As the movie is set to take the biggest opening for a Hindi film in Tamil Nadu, the stakeholders attribute this phenomenon to a tantalizing rumor — the possibility of a cameo appearance by Thalapathy Vijay.
"I strongly believe that a lot of Vijay fans are booking the tickets. They are curious to find out whether Vijay has played a cameo in the movie," .
To strategically maintain this heightened interest, the filmmakers have avoided providing a direct answer to the question, neither confirming nor denying Vijay's potential cameo in the film.
"If the rumours about the cameo are true, then the movie will rock the box office even on the weekends," Gowthaman added.
