Rumours and gossip don’t seem to leave Tollywood newcomer Susmita Chatterjee. Recently, a rumour mill went into overdrive with suggestions that the actress took a trip to the Maldives with the director of her forthcoming film with two other superstars. After multiple rumoured linkups, the actress has finally decides to speak up. In a candid chat with OTTplay, the actress says that she tries to stay strong and avoid such rumours but it never seems to stop.

Talking about the recent rumour, “I am a newcomer, rank outsider and single and hence I am subjected to such salacious gossip every day. I try to avoid it. I try to be unfazed by such gossip. But I also become affected sometimes. It makes my journey touch. In this case, I want to say that I have not travelled outside India yet. People are taking photos from an old photoshoot and linking that up with this trip. It is atrocious,” says the actress.

In fact, Susmita claims that she got her passport only recently and it still has no travel stamp on it. “When I got a call for Jeetda’s Chengiz, I was told that we might have a shoot in Bangkok. It was then I applied for my passport. It came but it is still unused,” she said.

Susmita took no time to take Tollywood by storm with her deep dimples and girl-next-door attitude soon after her debut in Anindya Chatterjee’s 2021 romcom, Prem Tame. To defend her stand, she says, “I don’t have a godfather and hence I have no one else to stand by me. I have to defend my position. I am an open person. If I date anyone and if I choose to, I will declare it to the world. But I deserve a little more dignity. I am done with these constant judgements from the media and society.”

Susmita further adds that it is because of the age-old misogynistic society that such stories surface and only the actresses get affected. “I am not the first one. Earlier also, several other actresses were subjected to such slanderous rumours. I believe that this just shows the misogynistic side of society. At the same time, I also believe that this is not the only trait to define our industry. A lot of newcomers like me came into the industry and became successful. I’d like to believe that our industry is much more inclusive and sensitised than what is happening right now with me,” says the actress.
