Watching Suniel Shetty do high-octane action sequences in the web series Hunter - Tootega Nahi, Todega is proof that action heroes can be in their 60s.
In a special conversation with OTTplay, the actor opened up on why he took a sabbatical after a successful run in 90s. He also spoke about what made him choose this series.
Suniel said, "I didn't take much time to say yes to this project, because, honestly speaking, mere paas kaam nahi tha (I did not have work). I wanted to do something in the action genre and I was not getting to do that. You know, for the last few years, all I was offered was roles that required a hot-looking father, or elderly man romancing a woman, etc. I do not want to create such an image of onscreen. As an actor, I love doing action. And age is never a factor. I knew that I could still do action, all I needed was an opportunity."
He added, "I have many actors to take inspiration from, such as Robert Redford and Charles Bronson -- all elderly men, with grey hair and wrinkles, who have swag and a killer attitude. I wanted to play someone like that, and I found that in ACP Vikram (his character in Hunter...). Throughout the shoot for the show, I felt that Vikram is in my blood. And I must mention that even though I worked with two new, young directors, I completely submitted to them, like a student. I would perform a scene and ask them if they wanted any variations, and delivered what they asked for. At the end of the day, what I want to tell the world is this: hey, action is back!"
Set in Mumbai, the eight-episode web series, Hunter - Tootega Nahi, Todega, is directed by Prince Dhiman and Alok Batra. It also stars Esha Deol, Barkha Singh, Rahul Dev, Karanvir Sharma, Smira Jaykar, and Jackie Shroff.
The show is available to stream on Amazon miniTV.
