The movie, scripted and directed by Jithu Madhavan, is produced by Johnpaul George, Soubin and Girish Gangadharan
Soubin Shahir’s past few signings have stood out for the novelty in its concept. His latest film Romancham, which he is also co-producing with Ambili filmmaker Johnpaul George and cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, promises to be no different.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, the film’s director and scriptwriter Jithu Madhavan tells us about the movie, which has wrapped up shooting and is currently in its post-production stage.
“It revolves around a bunch of people who are roommates in a house in Bengaluru. The characters are all from different districts of Kerala and hence speak different dialects,” says Jithu. “Also, the movie is set in 2007 and so, we have used the different aspects of that period including in the costumes as that was the time when bell-bottoms made a comeback.”
Apart from Soubin, the movie also has Arjun Ashokan in a pivotal role. “The rest of the cast are mostly newcomers,” says Jithu, who had earlier worked as an associate director in movies such as Guppy, Ambili and Maradona.
The movie has a stellar team as part of its production including Guppy director Johnpaul, Soubin and Girish Gangadharan as producers and composer Sushin Shyam as its co-producer. On how Soubin came onboard to back the film, the director tells us that the Bheeshma Parvam actor and Djinn actor decided to back the movie after the shoot had begun.
Sushin, meanwhile, was initially approached as the film's music director, he says. “He was our first preference as the film's composer. We approached him after the movie was shot. We went to him with the first cut of the film, he liked it and agreed to compose. That's how he also came onboard as its co-producer,” says Jithu.
On the release plans for the film, the filmmaker says, “The plan now is to take our time during the post-production to come out with a good film. We are hoping for an August release but it’s not confirmed yet.”
