Exclusive! Parvati Nair on Thalapathy Vijay – He’s not overly talkative, but he’s quite friendly
Parvati Nair has just begun shooting for Vijay's GOAT

A few days ago, Tamil and Malayalam actress Parvati Nair had announced on social media that she is a part of Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming next The GOAT – The Greatest Of All Time – her first with the Tamil superstar. When the Venkat Prabhu directorial was initially announced, Parvati was not a part of the cast and she joined in only after the first schedule of the film was done. In fact, given that there were reports of possible casting for GOAT every other day, Parvati did not think she’d stand a chance, even though she had asked Venkat to keep her in mind if a suitable role came up.

It's official! Parvati Nair confirmed for Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest Of All Time: 'Dreams do come true'

“I had met Venkat at a birthday party some time ago and all I said was to keep me in mind if something were to come up. He had replied that most of the casting was already done and that he’d let me know if there was a role for me after all. This was the first time ever in my career that I have pitched myself for a role, even though there was no guarantee of anything. An actor friend had told me about the importance of expressing your interest in working with someone and that played on my mind when I approached Venkat, even though I don’t know him very well. It was a good month or more later, sometime in November that I was asked to be a part of the film and I joined the set in December. I think that I was considered because in one of my earlier films, I had done a bold character with some similarity. I guess that could have become a reference point,” says Parvati.

Joining the set mid-way through production has also meant that the actress did not get a script narration. “The team was shooting in Istanbul at the time, and a co-director was in touch with me. On the phone, there tends to be a lack of clarity and it took me a while to confirm that I’d do the role. I knew it was a huge film and that meant a lot of responsibility, and I wondered if I am ready for it. Once I made up my mind to give it a shot, I called them and even shot for a few days in Hyderabad,” Parvati says, adding that she has another couple of schedules pending and that she will have a better understanding of the role and scenes later. As of now, she is under strict instruction to not divulge any details about the role or the film, but having met Vijay on set, Parvati adds that she was pleasantly surprised at how friendly he was.

“I do not know anyone who knows Vijay personally. I thought he was a very quiet person and that he doesn’t talk much to anyone on set, based on what I’d heard. I was expecting the same and that he was very unlike Ajith, who is very friendly and talkative. Vijay turned out to be just as sweet. He is not overly talkative, but he’s friendly and warm,” says Parvati, who will be shooting for GOAT at least till February.
