Nivin Pauly’s Thuramukham has already defaulted its release date multiple times, owing to the pandemic lockdowns. While there were rumours that the Rajeev Ravi directorial would head for a direct-to-OTT release like many of the big budget films including Minnal Murali, Marakkar and Malik, OTTplay now has confirmation that the movie will indeed be a theatrical release.
In an exclusive interview with us, Nivin provided a key update on the release status of the period drama, which also has Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Nimisha Vijayan, Arjun Ashokan and Poornima Jayaram in pivotal roles.
Talking about the film, the Premam actor says, “We are planning a December release for Thuramukham in theatres. Right now, discussions are progressing with theatre owners. It’s a big film and will provide the audience a massive viewing experience too.”
The Moothon star plays Moidu, a labourer based in Mattanchery in the movie that revolves around the chappa system that existed in the 40s and 50s in Cochin port where labourers had to fight among themselves to grab a coin tossed by the owners for work.
Before Thuramukham, Nivin will be making his OTT debut with Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval’s absurdist comedy titled Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham. The film, which is set to release on Disney+ Hotstar, revolves around a couple essayed by Nivin and Grace Antony, who check into a hotel, only to discover that the place has deeper issues than their own.
The comedy, which is produced by Nivin, also has Vinay Forrt, Joy Mathew, Jaffer Idukki and Rajesh Madhavan in pivotal roles.
