The Malayalam superstar’s upcoming big-budget films include Jeethu Joseph’s Ram and his own directorial debut Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure
After spending majority of the time since the pandemic in India shooting for seven movies including Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy and Jeethu Joseph’s 12th Man, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has an extensive schedule in over four countries planned in the upcoming few months.
The actor will kick off his foreign schedule by shooting the remaining portions of his directorial debut Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, which he has been busy with since December 2021. The star recently completed its penultimate schedule in Goa.
The film’s cinematographer Santosh Sivan recently told OTTplay, “We have almost finished shooting Barroz. We have two songs left to shoot. These will be picturised in Portugal and Bangkok, respectively.”
The movie, which is a 3D children’s fantasy, has Mohanlal playing its titular character of a ‘ghost’ who has been guarding Vasco Da Gama’s treasure to pass it on to its rightful heir.
Once Mohanlal completes the shoot of the movie, he will immediately resume working on Jeethu’s action-thriller Ram, which was stalled due to the pandemic. The movie, which also has Trisha and Indrajith Sukumaran, had earlier been planned to have portions set in Cairo, Uzbekistan and London.
In a recent interview with OTTplay, Jeethu told us, “The plan right now is to begin shooting the movie by mid July.” The filmmaker also said that he will be heading to the Middle East and the United Kingdom for the film’s recce next week.
Jeethu, who has directed Mohanlal in two movies – 12th Man and Drishyam 2 – during the pandemic, also explained Ram has been scaled up and the team is currently working on incorporating those elements too.
Meanwhile, Jeethu and Mohanlal duo’s 12th Man is slated to release on Disney+ Hotstar on May 20. The whodunit mystery film also has Sshivada, Unni Mukundan, Saiju Kurup, Chandunath, Anusree and Anu Mohan as part of its cast.
