The first single from the Raj B Shetty and Siri Ravikumar starrer will be released on November 6
A couple of months ago, at the height of the promotions of Raj B Shetty’s Toby, a few elements of his Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye (SMMH) were also put out in the public domain by producer Ramya’s studio. Raj wasn’t the one sharing any of it, which set off wild speculation about his dynamic with the banner, but that’s a story for another day. The behind-the-scenes video of the making of SMMH, the character introductions of Raj and Siri Ravikumar, featured background music, which did not seem in sync with the visuals, so we checked in with composer Midhun Mukundan about that. With the first single from SMMH set to drop on November 6 and the film coming to theatres on November 24, it’s a good time to present Midhun’s perspective about his music for the film.
“The promos that have come out for Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, have been done by the banner and the pieces of music you hear have no context there. That is not how it was made. These were meant for particular scenes and part of the story and not the promos. For instance, the music that comes in the character introduction of Prerana (Siri Ravikumar), I love that piece, but it does not create the impact that it has in the film when you watch that video. As far as I am concerned, Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye is one of my best scores. I don’t think I’ve done as much live recording for any movie as I have for Swathi. I wanted the score to be at a different level because it is a unique film that requires a tone of music that stands apart from whatever I have done before. I wanted it to sort a certain way and I went extra miles to achieve that. In fact, when you watch the film, you will have a different opinion about the music,” says Midhun.
Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye should be an OTT release; decision is up to the producer: Raj B Shetty
The composer, whose last work in Kannada cinema was Toby, has a good line up of films in Malayalam coming out soon. “I have quite a few big projects lined up for the rest of the year, including Mammootty’s Bazooka and Jayaram’s Abraham Ozler, among others. Each has its own demands and I am very excited about these films,” he says.
