MG Srinivas on Ghost trailer: A lot of thought went into the choice of every frame
It’s been two days since the much-awaited trailer of MG Srinivas’ upcoming action heist thriller Ghost came out. The film, led by Century Star Shivarajkumar, is set to be in theatres on October 19, ahead of which Srinivas gave audiences something to ponder over and create intrigue about the film. In his interactions with the media and fans, Srini has always been clear that the narrative of Ghost takes place in a 48-hour time frame and that much of the action takes place in a prison.

True to his word, the kind of visuals in the trailer depict pretty much what he’s told audiences so far and doesn’t dive much into the plot. And yet, in the last two days, there’s been a lot of analysis about Srini’s choice of visuals in the trailer. This is exactly the kind of response he was hoping for, Srini tells us. “I knew that if I cut the trailer like this, audiences will do a detailed analytical break-down of it. A lot of thought went into the choice of every single frame, because I had set limitations on how much could be revealed. Without giving away too much, I still had to make it as interesting as possible for audiences to carefully comb through every sequence. I wanted to maintain a curiosity about the film, even though I have given audiences a rough idea about it and that is why there is just one spoken line in the trailer, when Jayaram sir wonders why Shivanna’s character targeted a heavily-protected institution as a prison, instead of, say, a mall or a school. That line alone would give people a basic understanding of the story,” he tells us.

But some of the shots were repeated from the Big Daddy teaser and the OGM track and that was also intentional, says the filmmaker. “Even though I have repeatedly maintained that the Big Daddy teaser is not a separately shot promo piece and that it is actually culled together from a sequence in the film, there are people who continue to think that this portion won’t be in the film. I wanted to reinforce the fact that Big Daddy is an integral portion of Ghost and hence used it in OGM and the trailer too,” he says.
