Exclusive! Khadaan vs Santan: Dev and Mithun Chakraborty to have another face-off this winter?

Raj Chakraborty’s Santan, which features Mithun Chakraborty and Ritwick Chakraborty, may be released with Dev’s Khadaan. Pratim D Gupta’s thriller Chaalchitro will also be released at that time.

Dev and Mithun Chakraborty may gear up again for another face-off this Christmas. Dev dropped the teaser of his next, Khadaan, in August. There, he announced that the film would be released on December 20. Pratim D Gupta’s thriller Chaalchitro, which features Shantanu Maheshwari and Tota Roy Chowdhury, will also be released on the same date. Now, it is heard that Raj Chakraborty’s Santan, which features Mithun Chakraborty and Ritwick Chakraborty, may also be released on the same date.  

After skipping Durga Puja, SVF may have a Christmas release

Santan, produced by SVF, is a father-son tale shot earlier this year. When contacted, a spokesperson from the production house confirmed that there is a possibility of a December release. “We are thinking of a December release for Santan. However, nothing has been fixed yet,” they told us. The production house, known for its grand Puja releases over the years, did not release any film this festival season. With Santan, they can make an entry into the Christmas season. 

In fact, this Durga Puja saw a big battle between Dev’s Tekka and Mithun Chakraborty’s Shastri. While Srijit Mukherji’s Tekka impressed at the box office, Shastri fell short in collection. With Raj Chakraborty’s direction and SVF’s backing, Santan looks promising.

In Khadaan, Dev is back as action hero

Meanwhile, in Khadaan, Dev will be back as an action hero and he makes a clear announcement of that in the teaser. In the beginning, Dev says, “Family niye byasto achi bole ki bhebechish? Action the bhule gechi? Ota amari kaaj. (Did you think I forgot ‘action’ because I was busy with my family? That (action) is my department.” According to his fans, Dev's dialogue is inspired by his own journey and it is also his announcement of getting back to the action genre.

On the other hand, Pratim D Gupta’s Chaalchitro will also be released on December 20. The teaser was dropped recently and it hints at a pacy thriller with Shantanu, Tota, Anirban Chakrabarty, and Bangladeshi actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba in the lead. It shows the murders and lives of four cops. It promises all the elements of a gripping thriller. In fact, Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s Amaar Boss which features Raakhee Gulzar was also speculated to be released this winter. According to sources, after the success of Bohurupi, they decided to push it to next summer. Hence, the battle will be between a thriller with Chaalchitro, an action-packed Khadaan, and a drama with Santan. We’ll have to wait and watch which one of these three comes out as a box office champion.
