The actors open up about the incident
The recently-released crime-drama series, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, has been receiving a lot of appreciation from viewers for its engaging story and skilled performances by its star cast. Two lead actors of the show, Karan Tacker and Jatin Sarna, shared an exclusive BTS story with OTTplay.
Set in Bihar, Karan plays a high-profile police officer, Amit Lodha, whereas Jatin plays a criminal, Chandan, who is a member of a deadly criminal gang. Amit is on a mission to catch Chandan to eradicate crime from the area.
And it seems like the actors took their jobs seriously. So much so that Jatin ended up taking a real beating from Karan. "During one scene, Karan's character is supposed to beat me up quite badly. Karan asked me if we could rehearse it, but I wasn't keen on that. When the scene was shot, and the director said 'cut', I realised that mera kapda phat gaya, aur solid mein ek laafa bhi lag gaya! Of course, I understood that Karan did that because he was in character, but he was so intense. He's physically super strong," shared Jatin.
Jatin added that the fight choreographer had suggested Jatin get slapped for real so that the reaction is genuine. "Our fight master told me, 'Ek-do laafa real mein kha lo na, real wala expression aayega'. But I refused, because I know how strong Karan is. Also, in the scene, I can't raise my hand, since Karan plays a police officer. But if my natural reflex is to hit Karan back, then that couldn't work for the scene. I later found out that Avinash (Tiwari) also got a slap for real!" laughed Jatin.
Karan had a good laugh, recalling those action scenes and sharing his side of the story.
"Jatin is a method actor. Initially, I insisted on doing more rehearsals, because I believe that there's nothing like a well-rehearsed fight scene; it is like dance, because everything is choreographed. But Jatin said, 'Scene pe dekh lenge, bhai'. I did not want to impose, so I agreed. But one has to know the motivation behind the action," said Karan.
Revealing a little more about the same, Karan added, "Whether you play a police officer or a criminal, there is a line of violence that no one crosses. In that particular scene, Amit loses his cool when he realises that even after arresting the criminals, they managed to do something deadly, all while being behind bars. So, the action is a result of strong emotions — rage and anger."
Khakee: The Bihar Chapter is based on real-life incidents. It is created by Neeraj Pandey and directed by Bhuv Dhulia. It also stars Ashutosh Rana, Aishwarya Sushmita, Shraddha Das, Nikita Dutta, Vinay Pathak and Anup Soni. It is streaming on Netflix.
