Kalyani Priyadarshan’s journey in Malayalam has been one progressing from strength to strength. After making her Mollywood debut with Varane Avashyamund and starring in popular films such as Hridayam and Bro Daddy, the actress will next be seen as vlogger Beepathu in Khalid Rahman’s Beepathu.

Despite the success of her previous films, Kalyani in an exclusive interview with OTTplay says that she’s still nervous about how the Malayalam audience receives her movies and her roles in particular.

“One of the main reasons I took time to do my first Malayalam film was because I was terrified that people wouldn’t like me,” says Kalyani, who made her acting debut with Hello in Telugu. “I don’t why but I was always scared that I wouldn’t get the kind of love that my parents have always got. Maybe because I am a Malayali by birth but I haven’t lived in Kerala and I don’t have command over the language and I thought I would be hated for all of that.”

The actress says that she still carries the same emotion, even though she’s into her fourth movie in the Malayalam film industry. “I am grateful for everything, and this is exactly where I wanted to be. Honestly, I am still scared; at some point I think I would do something and mess it all up but I am hoping that I will be forgiven when I do that,” she says.

But hasn’t she already passed the litmus test of her second film and done a film like Hridayam, which continues to give her love on social media. “It’s not just that. Our State has a diverse culture. I could do anything and end up spoiling it. Even in Thallumaala, my character is an NRI but she speaks in Malabar slang. So, I am still terrified because I dubbed for the film, I am scared people are going to hate it. There are so many small things like that, after which I hope people will still love me after this.”
