The thriller, which also has Asif Ali, Nimisha Sajayan and Reba Monica John, is set to release directly on an OTT platform
Actor Antony Varghese has been on a hot streak since his debut. After four back-to-back hits in Angamaly Diairies, Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil, Jallikattu and Ajagajantharam, the actor is now all set for his OTT debut with Jis Joy’s Innale Vare, which also has Asif Ali, Nimisha Sajayan and Reba Monica John in the lead.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Jis told us about working with the actor in the film, which has him playing a technician. “Antony surprised all of us. He is an ordinary person without any starry airs or demands. You won’t even know if he is on the sets. My perception of him changed completely after working with him. A director can mould him in any way,” he says.
The idea of the movie, which is based on a story by Bobby and Sanjay, originated after an unexpected phone call from Kunchacko Boban, says the Sunday Holiday director. Asif plays an actor in the film. Ask Jis if Asif’s character is inspired from Kunchacko and he tells us, “It’s not based on Chackochan per se, but from an incident that he said had happened to his friend. We fictionalised this to make it into a film.”
The movie is a thriller and something that Jis is betting would change the audience’s perception of him being a director of only feel-good movies. Bobby, Sanjay and Jis had put together the story of the film in a week after Kunchacko’s phone call and were ready to shoot soon.
Innale Vare, which is set to release on an OTT platform in April, was shot entirely during the pandemic. On the challenges, the director tells us, “It was tough to shoot the movie as it has a lot of crowd sequences involving 300-400 people. Also, because everyone involved in the film was familiar to us, that helped a lot. All the artistes were very cooperative.”
