A little over a month ago, a young student’s death at the prestigious Jadavpur University hostel shook the country to the core. Upon investigation, it was found that the young student was brutally ragged by the seniors. The investigating authorities arrested 12 students in connection with ragging and were responsible for the death of the student, while one student was arrested allegedly for tampering with evidence. The investigation is still on.

Now, a short film is made taking a cue from this heartbreaking incident. Debmalya Gupta, who became popular with Raj Chakraborty’s debit web series Abar Proloy, plays the lead. Swastika Ghosh plays the female lead in the film. Directed by young filmmaker Tribikram Bera Ontim, the 20-minute-long film delves into the ordeal of a bright student who comes from a rural background to a prestigious university in the city. The student is brutally ragged and then he stands up against bullying. The name of the short film is Comeback.

Talking about the film, Debmalya told OTTplay, “Unlike the grim reality, in the film, the student gets a chance to protest and that’s his comeback. It was a challenging role and very unsettling as well. The Jadavpur University incident was very disturbing for all of us. This film is dedicated to the student who could not get a chance to make a comeback.”
Comeback is produced by Brobon Productions and will be dropped on their YouTube channel on September 20.
After the death of the student in August, a series of people, including the members of the Bengali entertainment fraternity, condemned the gruesome act. From Dev to Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Riddhi Sen, Soham Chakraborty, and others raised their voices.
