Exclusive! Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke actor Chandan Roy: OTT platforms are giving recognition to new talents

Actor Chandan Roy, who played a pivotal part in the newly released web series Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke, says that even though the competition has increased among actors these days, it is a much better time than the 90s, when talents used to go unnoticed due to limited avenues of entertainment.

In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Chandan said, “I remember my guru Raghubir Yadavji once told me how in the 90s, actors like him and his friends who came from the National School of Drama and were doing theatre extensively used to walk around on the streets of Mumbai without any work. That was the time when television was on top of its game. Cinema used to be a close-knit affair, which was not so easily accessible, as it was controlled only by a section of the society.”

Adding to that, he said, “So, there used to be many talented actors who used to get overshadowed by the popular stars. I think it was a much tougher time for a new talent then compared to today, and it is possible because of OTT platforms.” The actor has previously been part of series like Panchayat, Hostel Daze and TVF Pitchers Season 2, among others.

Although it’s still difficult to find a place in good projects, he feels that it is a much better time now, not only for actors but also for technicians.

“Nowadays, we can create content using our phone and that also gets visibility. You see actors used to work hard earlier also, but one can get a big break when the talent is noticed. Thanks to social media and multiple projects on OTT platforms, new talents like myself who come from a small town, get noticed and bag good projects,” the actor summed up.

The web series Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke is streaming on the OTTplay app and on ZEE5.
