Vikrant Rona director Anup Bhandari might only be three films old at this point but many would remember his highly impressive debut back in 2015. Having quit his plus IT job, Bhandari made the plunge into the world of films through RangiTaranga, a moody mystery-thriller that also featured elements of the paranormal. And now, as many as seven years later, the Hindi remake of the film is on the cards with Anup Bhandari himself attached to directing it as the remake acquisition deal gets underway.

As per the latest reports, a reputed Hindi film producer is currently keen on gaining the rights to the RangiTaranga remake and even aspires to bring the new version to life on a much larger scale. The names of big stars such as Akshay Kumar and Shahid Kapoor too are thrown in, albeit without any official confirmation, with the makers wanting Anup Bhandari himself to direct the Hindi remake.

When Anup was contacted for his word on the same, he stated, “Yes, the remake discussions are going on but I am not sure if I will be involved in the remake or not. It’s just too soon to say anything. The Hindi producers do want me to direct but I can’t predict anything, considering my other commitments.”

Actor Kiccha Sudeep had recently revealed that he will be collaborating with Anup Bhandari for the second straight time on Billa Ranga Baashaa. The duo is also slated to work on Ashwatthama, an ambitious big-budgeted project that Anup has been working on for quite some time - the first posters of both films are available on the internet.

Through RangiTaranga, Anup Bhandari was able to make an incredibly strong first impression on the Kannada audience. Right from the interesting subject matter that was rooted in the culture of Karnataka to the nuanced and innovative quality of storytelling, the film became a surprise hit at the time of its release. Aside from the commercial exploits, it also beckoned a change in Kannada cinema, with Anup joining the new league of filmmakers that comprised the likes of Pawan Kumar, Rakshit Shetty, and others.

But would he be keen on helming the remake, considering he dealt with the original more than seven years ago? “It will definitely be interesting to revisit the film," he says but also reckons that it's too early to comment on things.

Anup Bhandari's upcoming mega venture Vikrant Rona stars Kiccha Sudeep, Nirup Bhandari, and Neetha Ashok with Jacqueline Fernandez making a special appearance as Raquel D'Costa aka Gadang Rakkamma. The film will release across the world on July 28 in 3D.
