The Alphonse Puthren directorial, which was initially set for release for Onam, is yet to complete its post-production
Those awaiting the release of Alphonse Puthren’s comeback directorial Gold, which has Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara in the lead, will have to wait longer. The latest we hear from sources close to the team is that the movie has headed for reshoots.
Gold, which is jointly produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames, was initially slotted for an Onam release. But the makers had deferred its release as the post production work of the movie was not complete.
Now, a source close to the team exclusively tells OTTPlay that Alphonse had shot a lot of footage for the movie and by the time he was done editing, it exceeded three hours in duration. The filmmaker was asked to trim it further and this proved to be a challenge as he wasn’t satisfied with the later version, says the source. “This was why the movie will require reshoots for certain portions involving Prithviraj and Nayanthara,” the source explains.
In a recent media interaction, the film’s co-producer Listin Stephen said that he will only be able to give updates once the work on the movie, which is currently paused, is complete. In an earlier social media post, Magic Frames had replied that the film’s new release date will be announced only after Alphonse hands over the final complete product.
Gold, which marks Alphonse’s first movie after the blockbuster Premam, had completed its shoot earlier this year. Incidentally, the source also tells us that Prithviraj has asked the producers not to pressure Alphonse into handing over a movie that he wasn’t completely satisfied with.
The film marks the first collaboration between Prithviraj and Nayanthara in a full-length feature. The duo had worked together in a song sequence in Twenty-20, 14 years ago. The upcoming movie also has Roshan Mathew, Lalu Alex, Chemban Vinod Jose, Jagadish, Krishna Sankar, Shanti Krishna, Deepti Sati and Vinay Forrt in pivotal roles.
