In the early stages of his film Ghost, actor-filmmaker MG Srinivas had said that it would be a two-part story. Later, he announced that Ghost would be the first film in his Srinivas Cinematic Universe, which merges it with the Birbal franchise. But the question that remained in this age of two-part films was whether the movie that is releasing on October 19 would end in a cliff-hanger, prompting the necessity for a second part or if it is a complete story by itself.

We spoke to Srinivas about this and asked him to clarify. “Ghost is a complete film by itself. There is no cliffhanger or plot point that will have you wondering what’s next at the end. But the character that Shivanna is playing in the film has an interesting graph, which has the potential for various story lines, so when I said two-part, I meant that at least two movies would be doable. Looking at it now, though, I would say, it’s not two-part, but a franchise in the making,” says Srinivas, adding, "In this film, the story is limited to an occurance spanning 48-hours, so the possibilities that I can spin with this character are limitless."

Shivarajkumar’s Ghost is based on a real incident that happened in Chennai: MG Srinivas

Up next, Srinivas will work on Birbal 2, which, will include a character from Ghost, and then he will begin Ghost 2 and so on and so forth. That’s the plan as of now, he tells us. At the moment, though, the filmmaker is focusing on the release plan of Ghost, which is hitting theatres amid stiff competition from other major films like Leo, Bhagavanth Kesari, Tiger Nageshwara Rao and Ganpath, among others. Srinivas is bringing the Kannada version to about 350 screens in Kannada, with the Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi versions to release simultaneously on October 19. Only the Telugu version will be delayed, as the team is unlikely to find adequate number of screens in the market, given that a Balayya movie and a Ravi Teja film are releasing there. Ghost will, therefore, release on October 27 in Telangana/Andhra Pradesh.
