The anthology will feature works of The Great Indian Kitchen director along with four other filmmakers
There seems to be no escape from anthologies these days. After Aanum Pennum and the upcoming Netflix anthology on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories, The Great Indian Kitchen filmmaker Jeo Baby, Archana 31 Not Out director Akhil Anilkumar, Kunjila Mascillamani, Francies Louis and Jithin Isaac Thomas have teamed up for another anthology titled Freedom Fight Swathandrya Samaram.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Jeo tells us about the anthology that has Joju George, Rajisha Vijayan, Srinda, Siddhartha Siva and Kabani as part of the cast.
“When we started, we had asked each of the five directors to make a feature on any subject they liked. We wanted it to be good content and so didn’t want to limit it to a particular genre or theme. However, once the all five films were done, we realised that all five films were talking about the people’s freedom and that’s how we arrived at the title Freedom Fight Swathandrya Samaram,” says Jeo. “Freedom is something that is relevant in everyone's lives, so this movie discusses that. It’s a revolutionary movie or anything of that sort.”
Jeo’s featurette in the anthology stars Joju and Rohini, Akhil’s has Rajisha in the lead, Kunjila’s short film has Srinda as the protagonist, Jithin Isaac Thomas helms the segment with Sidhartha Siva and Francies Louis directs the vignette with Kabani, who was also part of The Great Indian Kitchen.
Ask the director about the anthology’s release plans and he tells us, “At present, we haven’t decided anything. Theatres have just reopened, so we want to see the reception. Also, the post production work of the anthology is only progressing and we will take a call based on when that’s done and how the situation is.”
