The web series Faadu: A Love Story is the directorial OTT debut of Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, starring Saiyami Kher and Pavail Gulati as the leads.
While the audience is still enjoying the beautiful story of Faadu: A Love Story, the latest released web series, and appreciating the performances of Pavail Gulati and Saiyami Kher, it is interesting to notice how the director of the show, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, yet again rediscovers a new side of Saiyami in a never-seen-before avatar.
It is not the first time when the filmmaker unveiled a new image of an actress; the audience has seen them in Swara Bhaskar, Kirit Sanon, Kangana Ranaut, Richa Chaddha in the recent past with films like - Nil Battey Sannata, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Panga .
In a special conversation with OTTplay, the director opens up about her way of casting an actress.
Ashwini told OTTplay, "Firstly, I must take a moment to appreciate the fact that all the actors I have worked with so far are very submissive to the director; they are the director's actors. You see, for a talented actor, it is not important to play a character close to who they are in real life. But for me, it is important to see their real selves so that I can peel off all their external layers or on-screen image and find the essence of the character in them."
The filmmaker believes that if and when a fictional character is created by taking elements from many real people whom we see in our daily lives, it becomes important to find that realism in the performance as well.
"You see, if you look at Kriti (Sanon), she is a very simple girl by heart, away from the glamorous roles she did before Bareilly Ki Barfi. I saw Bitti in her when I met her in real life, and had many conversations. So finally, when you see Bitti on screen, you also see a part of Kriti in her. Bringing that real self of an actress into the character is exciting for me. It was the same with Saiyami—there is an explored depth in her," shared Ashwiny.
The web series Faadu: A Love Story is streaming on SonyLIV.
