The pre-production of the film, helmed by Abhilash Joshiy, is currently underway
Last July, Dulquer Salmaan had announced King of Kotha, a gangster film that would mark the debut directorial of veteran filmmaker Joshiy’s son Abhilash Joshiy. While there have been no other updates regarding the film since then, OTTplay now has learnt that the makers will go on floors soon.
The movie’s scriptwriter Abhilash N Chandran, who had previously written the screenplay for Joshiy’s Porinju Mariam Jose, tells us, “The pre-production of King of Kotha is going on. We are planning to begin the shoot by July end or August beginning.”

In an earlier interview, its director Abhilash Joshiy had told us that the movie is based on events that happen in a fictional town called Kotha. Apart form Dulquer, the film’s antagonist will have a good scope of performance.
Ask Abhilash N Chandran about the rest of the cast and he says, “A lot of talented actors are part of the film. The casting will be finalised and we will be revealing the names.” Apart from the hero and the villain, the movie apparently also has space for a pivotal character that will reportedly be played a leading actor. While several names including Prithviraj Sukumaran’s have been doing rounds, there has been no official confirmation from the team.
Meanwhile, Dulquer is next set to begin the shoot of Soubin Shahir’s directorial Othiram Kadakam, which he will also be producing. The actor’s next release will the multi-lingual Sita Ramam, which is helmed by Telugu filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi and also has Mrunal Thakur and Rashmika Mandanna as part of the cast. The period romantic drama, which was shot extensively in Kashmir, has the Malayalam star playing the role of Lieutenant Ram.
Dulquer has also completed shooting for his web series debut Guns and Gulaabs, which is set to stream on Netflix. The series, set in the 90s, also has Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav as part of the cast.
