After charming the audience as a sufi saint in his debut film Sufiyum Sujatayum last year, actor Dev Mohan will now be essaying the role of an oud player in his Malayalam movie, helmed by Oru Cinemakkaran director Leo Thaddeus.
On the upcoming film, which also has Vinayakan, Shine Tom Chacko and Lal, the director tells OTTplay, “It’s a movie that has gangsters, but it’s not a typical gangster film. It’s more of a musical-thriller. The film is set against a coastal backdrop and revolves around the goons there. What happens when an oud player comes into their lives forms the crux of the story.”
Dev Mohan plays the role of the oud artiste in the movie. “Oud is a Turkish music instrument. We needed someone who looked graceful and Dev fit the bill. Once, the audience watches the movie, they would also pick the undertones that we have weaved into the script and his looks sort of contribute to that,” explains the filmmaker, who has also scripted the movie.
Talking about the other characters, Leo tells us, “Vinayakan plays the gangster leader, while Shine Tom Chacko essays his brother. Lal appears as a politician in the film.” Srinda and Indrans are also part of the movie, which has music by Alphons Joseph.
The team had shot for a few days but has temporarily halted it due to the pandemic situation in Kerala. “We will resume the shoot next week. The plan is to film at Nagercoil as well as some portions in Kerala,” he adds. Meanwhile, Dev is also part of the Telugu movie Shaakuntalam, which has Samantha Akkineni in the lead role.
