The actress is the female protagonist in Gippy Grewal's successful comedy franchise, which releases in theatres on June 29
One of the most popular Punjabi actresses, Sonam Bajwa, is gearing up for her next big release: Gippy Grewal's Carry On Jatta 3. Ahead of the release of the third installment of the comedy-drama franchise, the actor shares how she deals with the enormous pressure before a big release.
In a conversation with OTTplay, Sonam said, "I feel a certain amount of pressure before the release of a film, especially because I know that this is the third installment of the film and we have a strong fanbase for the film. But the good thing is that the new film is a multi-starrer. So, I have a star like Gippyji to share the pressure with me. The good thing is that in this film, not all eyes are going to be on me. Of course, I feel proud that Carry On Jatta is one of the most successful franchises in recent times that has broken several records commercially for Punjabi films, with a worldwide fan following."
"I feel added pressure when I do a female-led film because, as a female artist, I always have to walk the extra mile to prove my worth. Even in a multi-starrer, every actress has to work hard to get noticed. We all know that this is a male-dominated business. When my female-led film Godday Godday Chaa was about to release, I could not sleep because I knew that everyone would be going to watch me and my choice of film. It was a comedy, but the responsibility was on my shoulders, so I really wanted the film to work at the box office, which it did," explained the actress.
Carry On Jatta 3 is directed by Smeep Kang and is the sequel to Carry On Jatta 2, which released in 2018. The first installment of the franchise was released in 2012.
Asked about the new elements in the story and her character, Sonam said, "Well, the world of the film is still the same. It is a comedy of errors and revolves around two families. There is madness around who is whose girlfriend and a lot of miscommunication, misunderstanding, and situational comedy; that's the DNA of the film, and that's what the audience expects as well."
Carry On Jatta 3 also stars Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, Jaswinder Bhalla, and Jyotii Sethi. It is produced by Gippy and will be released in theatres on June 29.
