A still from the film
A month ago, producer-turned-actor J Satish Kumar aka JSK surprised movie buffs by announcing that the long-delayed action flick Vaa Deal will hit the screens on Deepavali. Last year, he took to social media to inform that he had plans to release the Arun Vijay-starrer on an OTT platform, along with a couple of other projects which he has bankrolled.
The movie was supposed to take on Rajinikanth's Annaatthe and Silambarasan's Maanaadu at the box office on Deepavali. Later, the latter backed off from the race as its makers felt a solo release would be better for their business prospects. Vishal-Arya's Enemy which was initially a Dussehra release, joined the race as well.
In the last few weeks, Kollywood has been abuzz with Annaatthe and Enemy competing at the box office on Deepavali though it is a known fact that the former has an upper hand with regard to allotment of theatres. Movie buffs were quite curious on the lack of update from the makers of Vaa Deal.
Now, JSK, in a chat with OTTplay, has confirmed that they have decided to postpone the film from Deepavali. He said, "We are opting out of Deepavali race due to lack of enough theatres for our movie. From what I heard, even Enemy is not getting the expected theatres. So in this situation, we felt it is better to avoid competition now. We might arrive a week or two later; we have already informed exhibitors and distributors."
Maanaadu has been postponed to November 25 and Sasikumar's Kombu Vatcha Singamda is hitting the screens on November 26. Arun Vijay's Borrder Shanthnu-Athulya's Murungakkai Chips, CV Kumar's Jango and Santhanam's Sabhaapathy are releasing on November 19. With more than enough content announced on these dates, when can audience expect Vaa Deal? JSK added, "We will announce the release date officially on Deepavali."
