The movie, directed by Alphonse Puthren, also has Vinay Forrt and Jagadish as part of its cast
Gold, Premam director Alphonse Puthren’s first film after six years, already has a lot going for it – from its casting with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara in the lead to the filmmaker’s expertise. In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, actor Ajmal Amir, who plays a pivotal character in the movie, tells us more about the film and working with Alphonse.
“Gold has a unique genre. We have seen it in a lot of English films, but it’s probably the first time in Malayalam. A lot of big artistes – old and new – are part of the movie,” says Ajmal. Apart from its lead, the movie also has Vinay Forrt, Mallika Sukumaran, Baburaj and Jagadish as part of the cast.
While Ajmal is tight-lipped about his character or the film’s plot, he tells us, “Gold is a full-on, fun-packed film filled with interesting characters and situational comedy. It’s a film that people across age groups will be able to enjoy. It will also provide the audience relief from thrillers that we are increasingly being treated to right now.” The team is almost done with the shoot of the film, except for a song sequence that is yet to be filmed.
For Ajmal and Alphonse, their collaboration has been a long time coming. In fact, Alphonse had a small role to play in Anjathe and Netrikann actor’s career starting off.
“Both of us are from Aluva and we have known each other even before we came to the industry. As we both shared a passion for cinema, he was the one who edited a reel for me that we had shot. I used that to start my career. After that, I introduced him to (director) Mysskin and he worked with him for some time. Then, Alphonse first pitched Neram to me, but due to some reasons I couldn’t do it that time. We did talk about collaborating in other films but that didn’t happen till Gold,” says the actor, whose next release will be Suresh Unnithan’s Kshanam.
