Exclusive! After festival nods, director Anuraag Pati’s Prapti hit theatre this June

Based on a story by Buddhadeb Guha, the film was recently screened at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival in which it received the Hiralal Sen Memorial Award for the Special Jury Award in the Indian Languages' Films Category

Young director Anuraag Pati is all geared up to release his film Prapti on June 10. The trailer of the film that features Samadarshi Dutta, Pratyusha Roslin, Debdut Ghosh and Ananya Pal Bhattacharya was dropped on Youtube recently. Based on a story by Buddhadeb Guha, the film was recently screened at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival in which it received the Hiralal Sen Memorial Award for the Special Jury Award in the Indian Languages' Films Category. It also got an official selection at the Imagine India Film Festival, Madrid, Spain.

“I expected a good response from the trailer as I was very confident about the story. But I didn't expect such an overwhelming one. I am touched by the reception and I hope I will get a similar reaction for the film as well,” the director told exclusively to OTTPlay after the launch of the trailer.

Meanwhile, the lead actor Samadarshi was also very excited about the response. “This is our tribute to Buddhadeb Guha. It has been a wonderful experience working on this film. I cherished every moment of it. I hope and pray that the audience would shower their love on our film too,” he told OTTPlay.

Indian novelist Buddhadeb Guha breathed his last on August 29, last year.

Prapti delves into the life of a young woman, Shoma. She is married to a forest official and stays in a remote village in Bihar. Shoma cannot overcome her feelings for the love of her life, Bedeyda, with whom she parted ways many years ago. One day, Bedeyda comes to visit her. That becomes a defining reward in her otherwise mundane life.

“The premise of this film is based on Buddhadeb Guha’s short story, Prapti. This was published in his love story collection. Based on that, we elaborated the plot. Buddhadeb babu used to get into telephonic meetings with us while we were drafting the script. He actively engaged in developing and elaborating our script,” Anuraag said.

The shooting of the film initially started in February last year and got disrupted due to the second wave. “Finally we could finish the film once the wave was over. We sent it to several festivals, including KIFF. Now we are gearing up to release it on June 10,” Anuraag added.
