The actor, who was last seen in Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund and Kunchacko Boban’s Pada, talks about the reception of the Sony LIV series
Ever since Nikkhil Advani’s Rocket Boys premiered on Sony LIV in February 2022, expectations for its second season skyrocketed. The acclaimed show, which revolves around the lives of two of India’s greatest minds – Dr Homi Bhabha and Dr Vikram Sarabhai, has already catapulted the OTT platform in the race for great original Indian content.
While Advani had confirmed that season 2 was in the offing in February, OTTplay has now learnt that the team has in fact already shot most of the sophomore instalment along with season 1.
Actor Arjun Radhakrishnan, who plays APJ Abdul Kalam in the show starring Jim Sarbh, Ishwak Singh and Regina Cassandra, tells us, “We shot seasons 1 and 2 in parallel. Because of the pandemic, both the seasons were written and filmed together. But we have only completed about 85% of season 2. I still don’t have a clarity on when we would be shooting the remaining portions.”
Arjun, meanwhile, has been part of several acclaimed movies since Rocket Boys hit the OTT platform. He played a supporting role in Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund and was also seen in Kunchacko Boban’s Malayalam film Pada, in which he essayed the role of a collector inspired by another real-life figure – retired IAS officer WR Reddy.
Ask him if he was expecting the kind of response that Rocket Boys got and he says, “No, it was heart-warming. Everyone appreciated everything about the show – the look, the feel, the art direction and performances. People liked the freshness and said it is a good show for the Indian OTT space. When the show is appreciated, everything gets noticed that much more. That’s also when you feel you have contributed towards a nicely-made show.”
Arjun will next be seen in Minnal Murali duo Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph’s Dear Friend, which is set to hit theatres on June 10. He is also part of Parvathy Thiruvothu’s next titled Ullozhukkam.
