Karun Nair's recent plea on Twitter has garnered a lot of attention. The cricketer, who holds the feat of being the only second Indian batsman to score a Test triple century, sent out a short but emotional message imploring for one more chance after he was dropped from Karnataka's Ranji Trophy team. The tweet, for obvious reasons, has gone viral with netizens backing Nair with inspirational messages as his hopes to make a comeback persist.

Former Indian fast bowler and cricket expert Dodda Ganesh was one of the first ones to back his fellow Karnataka player as he urged Karun Nair to stay strong and believe that he will soon earn his place in the team. Similarly, Nair was greeted with supportive messages from fans and well-wishers who reckoned that he is due a spot in the Karnataka team at the earliest.

The 31-year-old Karun Kaladharan Nair began his cricketing journey at the age of 10 and persevered in the competitive environment of Karnataka. His first-class debut would come about in the 2013-14 season wherein he scored three consecutive games in the knockout stages, helping Karnataka lift the Ranji Trophy that year. Known for his fluency and solid technical approach as a batter, Karun was regarded as the next big pick in the national circles and soon enough, he got his call for the Indian team in May 2016 for the ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe. He made his Test debut in November of the same year against England and scored his maiden century (303*) in the same series.

However, the weight of the expectations saw Karun Nair's form dip at the international level and he would lose his spot in 2017 owning to a lean patch in those few months. His IPL career too would be impacted as a result and despite captaining the Delhi Capitals at one point, he was subjected to multiple transfers before being picked by Rajasthan Royals.

For the longest time, Karun's slump as an Indian cricketer did not impact his performance at the first-class level. But over the past few months, his form in domestic cricket too plummeted and he was dropped from Karnataka's squads for the Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare trophies. He was not announced as part of the state's team for the first two games of the upcoming Ranji Trophy.
