Escaype Live: Jaaved Jaaferi compares the upcoming web show with Takeshi’s Castle

Jaaved Jaaferi is synonymous with the show Takeshi’s Castle. He took the Indian adaptation of the Japanese game show and turned it into something that caught the eye of the Indian audiences. The comedian-actor added his flair to the show when it was telecasted in India with his hilarious voiceovers. Soon to be seen in the show Escaype Live, Jaaved has now compared the web series with Takeshi’s Castle.

In an interview with Money Control, the actor was asked if he could compare Escaype Live and Takeshi’s Castle, considering both of them involved a competition. Of course, while Takeshi’s Castle had physical challenges, Escaype Live is more about mental and artistic challenges.

Jaaved said that he himself did not know what the prize was with Takeshi’s Castle or who was winning what but the contestants participated with a smile on their face. He then adds when it comes to Escaype Live, the competition is extremely intense and goes into dangerous zones.

“You don’t know where it is (Takeshi’s Castle), when it is and each contestant is in his or her unique costume in a mad world, led by this general. Escaype Live is very contemporary, identifiable and much more cutthroat. It is a story about Gen Z,” he shared.

Jaaferi added that director Siddharth Kumar Tewary has researched about apps and contestants and their mindsets and even talked to a few influencers for his project. He further pointed out that the stories that are created are identifiable.

Takeshi’s Castle originally broadcasted on Tokyo Broadcasting System and a shortened version was broadcasted in India on Pogo TV. Jaaved Jafferi dubbed the voice of the host of the show.

Escaype Live also features Waluscha De Sousa, Siddharth, Shweta Tripathi, Jaaved Jaaferi, Swastika Mukherjee, Plabita Borthakur and Sumedh Mudgalkar among others. The show is about a competition that revolves around a few techies and a social media apps.

The eight-episode series is set to start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from May 20. All the episodes will be released at once.
