Actor Emraan Hashmi has never shied away from speaking his mind, be it about nepotism or about his co-stars. The actor has always been unapologetic and nonchalant about his opinions. A video of Emraan from his interview with Karan at Koffee With Karan is the internet’s favourite, where Emraan is asked which actor comes to mind when he hears the word plastic. To this, Emraan replied, "Aishwarya".

Emraan Hashmi on his ‘plastic’ Aishwarya Rai comment

The actor was recently asked about that video and Emraan said that he says things the way they are, and the ‘plastic’ comment was the running joke of the episode. He added that he said those things in jest and to win the famed ‘Koffee hamper.’

Emraan also said that he has never been apologetic for what he had said before and he never will be in the future.

In another interview with Bollywood Bubble, Emraan revealed that he had to face certain consequences after the premiere of that Koffee With Karan episode. He added that he had to bear the brunt of it for quite some time, all for calling a spade a spade.

Emraan on the cancel culture

Speaking about how celebrities used to feel more comfortable speaking their minds in the past when compared to today, Emraan said that people were a lot freer back then. Reflecting on today’s troll and cancel culture, Emraan also said that he does not know if he would say the same thing right now in today’s culture and environment.

“I don’t think there was so much critique and cynicism. There’s a certain cynical attitude also in society that you see reflected on social media now,” he said.

Reflecting on the increase in cases of cancel culture and trolling, Emraan said that if anything goes against popular sentiment, it is attacked, which was not the case until a few years ago. He stated that people will bash you if you say something that is opposed to their point of view or their ideology, and he does not think that was the case back in the day.

Emraan Hashmi will be seen alongside Naseeruddin Shah, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal and many more on March 8 in Showtime, which will stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
