As a controversy rages over the content portrayed in Empuraan, details about the Censor Board’s recommendations have surfaced online. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked for only two cuts in the Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial, as per reports on Manorama Online. Both these changes were made by the makers too, according to the reports. Here are the details of the changes sought by the Censor Board in the second installment of the Lucifer trilogy.

2 cuts sought in Empuraan

The Central Board of Film Certification had sought to trim down the scene that showed violence against women by six seconds. Another scene referring to the National Flag was also trimmed by four seconds, as per the report on Manorama Online. These cuts mandated by the board were also incorporated by the film’s makers, the reports added. The film was certified UA 16+ by the board before its release.

Empuraan opens to mixed reviews

The highly anticipated Malayalam film, Empuraan, released in theatres on March 27, 2025, but got mixed reviews. Though L2E won applause for its brilliant filmmaking, a section of the audience took objection to the content portrayed in the film. The right-wing supporters have come out against the makers for certain scenes in the film. However, neither director Prithviraj Sukumaran or lead actor Mohanlal has reacted to the controversy so far.

Empuraan makes big bucks

Despite the mixed reviews and controversy surrounding Empuraan, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s film has reportedly crossed Rs 100 crore at the worldwide box office. The makers have announced on social media that the Mohanlal-starrer has achieved the feat within two days of its release.
