Emmys 2024 Snubs

The world of streaming today witnessed one of its biggest nights ever—the 76th Emmy Awards. This prestigious event, held annually, has fans from around the globe rooting for their favorite shows, characters, and actors to win big at the gala. The 76th Emmys were particularly noteworthy as 2023 saw the release of many hugely popular shows that dominated the landscape. This was the year of Shōgun The Bear, Abbott Elementary, and many others competing for top honors. Shōgun made history by winning 18 awards out of the 22 categories it was nominated in, while The Bear took home four awards. But amidst the celebrations, there were also some shocking snubs that have left fans and critics reeling.

The 2024 Emmys were full of surprises, with unexpected wins in various categories, and some notable omissions that have sparked much conversation. While some actors, shows, and technical teams celebrated, others left empty-handed despite high expectations and critical acclaim. Here are the biggest snubs of the 2024 Emmys.

The Biggest Snubs of Emmy 2024

Ayo Edebiri (The Bear)

While The Bear is often recognized for Jeremy Allen White’s performance, Ayo Edebiri’s portrayal has also garnered widespread love from audiences. This season, her emotional performance made her a standout, earning her a strong contender status in the eyes of fans. After winning Best Supporting Actor last year, many expected her to repeat the win. However, this year the award went to Jean Smart for Hacks leaving many fans disappointed.

Ramy Youssef (The Bear)

Another surprising snub tied to The Bear was director Ramy Youssef, who helmed the iconic episode "Honeydew." Youssef was nominated for Best Director for this episode, but the award instead went to Christopher Storer for his direction of the episode "Fishes." While the show still won in this category, Youssef’s loss felt unexpected for many, given the acclaim for his work on "Honeydew."

Abbott Elementary

Perhaps the most shocking snub of the night was Abbott Elementary which failed to win any awards despite being nominated in six categories. The show, which has become one of the most beloved comedies streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, has drawn comparisons to iconic sitcoms like The Office and Parks and Recreation. The fact that it went home empty-handed left fans stunned.

Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm)

One of the most heartbreaking snubs was Larry David, whose show Curb Your Enthusiasm had its final run with season 12. Despite the show winning two awards, none of the actors were recognized, and David himself did not receive an award during what could be considered his swan song with the series. This omission left many fans deeply upset, as they hoped David would be honored for his years of contribution to comedy.

These are just a few of the biggest snubs from the 2024 Emmys. You can catch the 76th Emmy Awards on Lionsgate Play in India with your OTTplay Premium subscription. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates on everything from the world of streaming and films.
