Why Matthew Perry Was Missing

For the unversed, Matthew Perry passed away on October 28, 2023. The Friends star, known globally for his role as Chandler Bing, was loved by millions. The cause of his death was reported to be accidental drowning in his hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades, California. His sudden death shocked fans worldwide, who are still grappling with the tragedy. So when his name was missing from the In Memoriam segment at the 2024 Emmys, some fans expressed disappointment. Technically, the In Memoriam segment pays tribute to artists lost in the year before the event. Matthew Perry was already honored during the 75th Emmys in 2023. How, you ask? The 75th Emmys were delayed due to the Hollywood strikes last year. Originally scheduled for September 2023, the event was postponed and held in January 2024. Since Perry passed away two months before the rescheduled event, he was included in that tribute. As a result, he was not featured in the 2024 In Memoriam list.

Who Was Featured in the In Memoriam Segment of 2024?

At the 76th Emmys, singer and rapper Jelly Roll took center stage to lead the In Memoriam segment. He performed his emotional song I Am Not Okay a track known for touching the hearts of many. Before his performance, Jelly Roll said, “I hope that this song can act as a healing moment for those mourning the storytellers we have lost this year.”
