The past year saw the entertainment industry lose a number of celebrated and beloved figures. Continuing with tradition, the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards paid tribute to the performers and crew members who passed away this past year with a moving tribute in their In Memoriam segment.
The segment included a heartfelt rendition of the song Pieces by John Legend. The honourees included performers as well as writers, directors and crew members. Betty White, Anne Heche, Bob Saget, Ray Liotta, Sidney Poitier, Nichelle Nichols, Gilbert Gottfried, James Caan, Emilio Delagado, Peter Scolari, SYoko Shumada, Burt Metcalfe, Jay Sandrich, George Yanok, John Bowman, Jak Knight, Dwayne Hickman, Tony Dw, Roger E Mosley, Howward Hesseman, Lisa R Anderson, Tony Walton, Willie Garson, Robert Morse, Bernard Shaw, Larry Sellers, Marilyn Bergman, David Arnold, GiChelsie Kryst, Dean Stockwell, Tony Sirico, Jean marc-Vallee, Michael Nesmith, Louie Anderson, and Paul Sorvino were honoured in the segment.
Meanwhile, the Primetime Emmy Awards 2022 took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The show was hosted by Kenan Thompson of Saturday Night Fame. Ted Lasso, The White Lotus, Abbott Elementary, Succession and Squid Game took home multiple awards at the Emmys this year. While Succession and Ted Lasso won for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series respectively, The White Lotus took home the award for Best Limited or Anthology Series. Zendaya made history to become the youngest actress to bag two Emmy Awards for acting when she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Euphoria. Other winners included Michael Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Murray Bartlett, Matthew Macfadyen, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Julia Garner, Brett Goldstein, Jennifer Coolidge, Mike White, Mike White, Jason Sudeikis, Lee Jung-jae and Jean Smart, among others.
