The Emmy Awards 2024 are finally here and Ayo Edebiri of The Bear and Quinta Brunson of Abbott Elementary have bagged deserving victories in Supporting Actress and Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
It is the Emmy Awards 2024, live from the Peacock Theatre, hosted by actor-comedian Anthony Anderson. The prestigious award’s latest edition chose to honour the best performances in cinema and TV between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023. This year, Quinta Brunson and Ayo Edebiri received the Best Actress in a Comedy Series and Supporting Actress awards from Christina Applegate.
First, Ayo Edebiri came for her Supporting Actress award. The actress was looking rather fetching in a fitted black leather dress with a sweetheart neckline. She had won the award for her performance of Sydney in The Bear and had already scored a victory for it at the Golden Globe Awards 2024 as well.
Edebiri joked about having only ‘43 seconds’ to make her speech, referring to the time constraints amusingly meted out to the nominees and guests at the beginning of the show during Anthony Anderson’s opening set. She wanted to thank her multiple families—the real one, the reel one, and those behind the scenes but equally important.

She cracked a rather relevant joke that resonates with that shown in Netflix’s currently trending show The Brothers Sun, in which Bruce Sun, the younger son, aspires to improve acting as a career. Ayo Edebiri thanked her parents for being ‘great’ enough to ‘allow’ her to seriously pursue improv after immigrating to the United States amid great toil and hardships.
Then it was Quinta Brunson’s time to get the Best Actress in a Comedy Series award for her fantastic role in Abbott Elementary. The award was presented to her by Christina Applegate, accompanied by 7-time Emmy-winning actress Carol Bernett. Dressed in a puffy pink gown with a modestly plunging neckline, the actress was overwhelmed by emotions, rendering her barely able to speak.
In a choked voice, a teary-eyed Brunson thanked everybody, from her parents to her husband to her team members. But above all, she thanked everybody present there who let her live out her dream and do comedy.
The actress’ unexpected victory was the epitome of the fact that the deserving do get acknowledged. The Emmy Awards are available to stream on Lionsgate Play and OTTplay Premium from January 15, 2024, onward.
