Emergency starring Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, and Satish Kaushik finally got released in theatres on January 17, 2025. The film was delayed multiple times due to several controversies. In the film, Kangana is seen essaying the role of former PM Indira Gandhi. While speaking to NDTV recently, Shreyas Talpade, who has played the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the film, lauded his co-star and director Kangana. Calling her a 'fabulous' actor, Shreyas said that she has 'put her best foot forward' as Indira Gandhi ji in Emergency. He said, "We have seen her perform in a manner that very few people are able to. She has won awards, accolades, and applause whenever she has performed something on screen, and trust me, Emergency is not going to be any different."
Speaking about his experience of working with her, he said, "So, working with her on-screen was fabulous. If your co-star is fabulous, it adds more value to your performance, and I'm lucky and honoured that I shared screen space with her."
Further, the Iqbal actor claimed that there couldn't have been a better director than Kangana for Emergency. He added, "As far as her being the director, I think there couldn't have been a better director than her for Emergency. The way she was in control, the way she has done her research and homework was fabulous." He also expressed excitement over teaming up with her again in the future. He said that he had a great time working with her, and is looking forward to working with her on some other projects.
Emergency is set against the backdrop of India's Emergency period from 1975 to 1977. In the film, Kher played the role of Jayaprakash Narayan while Milind Soman essayed Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw's character.
