Kangana Ranaut is gearing up to portray Indira Gandhi in her upcoming film Emergency. She introduced herself in the titular role last month, meanwhile, now the Tanu Weds Manu actor has unveiled a new character poster from the movie featuring veteran actor Mahima Chaudhry Pupul Jayakar
Kangana took the new poster to her official Instagram handle and shared it with a special caption that reads, "Presenting @mahimachaudhry1 as the One who witnessed it all, and wrote for the world to see the Iron Lady up, close and personal. #PupulJayakar Friend, Author & Confidante #Emergency (Sic)."
The latest poster features Mahima as Pupul Jayakar, a close friend to the first female Prime Minister of India, who served as a cultural adviser to the great leader too.
The actor can be seen sporting a simple-looking Khaki saree with salt-and-pepper hair tied up in a bun.

Talking about the new character, Kangana mentioned in a recent statement, “Pupul Jayakar was an author, a very close friend of Mrs Gandhi and has also written her autobiography. Mrs Gandhi confided in her about everything. If there is one thread that runs through the film and connects the audiences to the inner world of Mrs Gandhi, then it’s the character of Pupul Jayakar. Even though the film is a first-person account, it is not a film where somebody is the narrator. Mrs Gandhi’s interactions with Pupul are the most soulful."
Emergency also marks Kangana's second directorial after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.
Meanwhile, talking about working with Kangana, Mahima said in a statement that it's an experience because the actress wears so many hats with such great ease as she is playing the titular role as well as directing and producing the film.
Written by Ritesh Shah, the political drama movie is slated to hit the cinema theatres in 2023.
