Emergency will mark the directorial debut of Kangana Ranaut. The film was supposed to hit the theatres on September 6, 2024. However, amid the growing controversies, the biographical political drama has been postponed. The new release date is yet to be announced. Amid this, the Censor Board has suggested some changes and cuts to which the makers have now agreed.
Emergency makers agree to Censor Board's cuts
On September 30, the makers of Kangana's Emergency agreed to the changes suggested by the revising committee of the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC). During the latest hearing in the Bombay High Court, the representative of Zee Studios informed the court that they have submitted a format for the implementation of the changes and are waiting for the board's response.
ANI revealed that the further hearing will take place on October 3. They tweeted, "Production company Zee Studio’s lawyer told Bombay HC that they have agreed to the suggested changes by the Revising Committee, and they have submitted a format for the implementation of the changes suggested by the CBFC. CBFC will respond to this format and the next hearing on the matter is kept on Thursday, 3rd October."
Details of Censor Board's cuts for Emergency
The board suggested around 13 cuts and changes to the film while giving it a UA certificate. The revising committee informed the makers to make the changes and obtain the certificate for its release in theatres.
The list of cuts included the removal of a few violent scenes, and also a reference to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a 'saint or sant' in a dialogue. The decision was made following multiple complaints by several Sikh groups, complaining the film showed the Sikh community in a wrong way.
Speaking with IANS, Kangana Ranaut said, “It’s getting too late. I hope the film comes on time. Otherwise, I am determined to fight for it. I am determined to even go to court to protect my film. To save my right as an individual. You can’t change history and scare us by threats.”
Meanwhile, Emergency is a biographical drama that centers around the life of the former prime minister Indira Gandhi. The film will dive into the period from 1975 to 1977 when the Emergency was imposed. Kangana will be seen playing the role of Indira Gandhi in the movie.
