All about Censor Board's cuts for Emergency

The board suggested around 13 cuts and changes to the film while giving it a UA certificate. The revising committee informed the makers to make the changes and obtain the certificate for its release in theatres.

Speaking more about it, the list of cuts included the removal of a few violent scenes, and also a reference to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a 'saint or sant' in a dialogue. The decision was made following multiple complaints by several Sikh groups, complaining the film showed the Sikh community in a wrong way.

One of the key scenes in the Emergency trailer that sparked controversy on social media features Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Makkhan Lal addressed this in his comments as well. He questioned whether Bhindranwale represents the entire Sikh community and why criticizing him is seen as an insult to the community.

Speaking with IANS, Kangana Ranaut said, “It’s getting too late. I hope the film comes on time. Otherwise, I am determined to fight for it. I am determined to even go to court to protect my film. To save my right as an individual. You can’t change history and scare us by threats.”

Meanwhile, Emergency is a biographical drama. The plot centers around the life of the former prime minister Indira Gandhi. The film also features Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade in the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.

The film will showcase the period from 1975 to 1977 when the Emergency was imposed. Kangana will be seen playing the role of Indira Gandhi in the movie.
