Emergency box office collection day 1.
Emergency box office collection day 1: Kangana Ranaut's political film was released in theatres after multiple delays. The movie, directed by Ranaut, was supposed to be released in cinemas last year. Emergency finally hit the big screen on January 17, 2025. At the box office, it clashed with Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani's Azaad. Although the clash didn't affect Emergency much, it still got a slow and decent start at the ticket window.
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Emergency opened to Rs 2.35 crore at the box office. Starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, the political drama emerged as the actress' biggest opening film in five years. Emergency tops the list compared to Kangana's solo releases in the post-COVID era.

For the uninitiated, Ranaut's 2023 film Tejas minted Rs 1.25 crore at the box office. On the other hand, her 2022 film Dhakad earned Rs 1.20 crore on its first day of release. Say for that matter, Kangana's 2021 film, Thalaivi, collected Rs 1.46 crore across all three languages (Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu).
In an interview with News18, Kangana Ranaut revealed why she would not make a political film after the Emergency. The actress said, "I’m never making a political film again. I’m not very motivated. It’s so difficult to make one. I now understand why not many people do it, especially on real-life characters. Having said that, I think Anupam (Kher) ji was amazing in The Accidental Prime Minister as Manmohan Singh. It’s one of his best performances. But if you ask me, I’m never doing it again."
Once the film's theatrical run ends, Emergency will have its OTT premiere on Netflix. A film usually drops on streaming after 45-60 days of the theatrical run.
