Telugu adult comedy Ek Mini Katha is expected to release digitally in the last week of May,
With the COVID-19 pandemic leading to multiple films rescheduling their theatrical releases, small budget films have found it difficult to afford that luxury. Thus, many are turning to direct-to-OTT releases, especially in Tollywood. One of the more interesting films in this list is Karthik Rapolu’s adult comedy Ek Mini Katha starring Santhosh Sobhan and Kavya Thapar.
Reports state that the film is all set to make its premiere on OTT platforms soon and that filmmakers were weighing their options. However, the latest update on this front is that the film is proving to be a favourite among streaming services, with filmmakers getting handsome offers to hand over the digital rights. One of these offers has been made by Amazon Prime Video and apparently, the digital rights of Ek Mini Katha have been sold to the streaming giant for over Rs 9 crore.
The reason behind the film being a source of attraction for OTT platforms is its adult comedy genre which is guaranteed to do well digitally. The budget of the film is said to be small, with filmmakers having doubled the amount of money they invested in the project by securing the Amazon Prime Video deal. Audiences can expect Ek Mini Katha to premiere in the last week of May.
The filmmakers have probably taken the best route for the film, since theatrical releases have had short-lived success in the nation. Uppena was the first Telugu film of 2021 to have raked in Rs 50 crore after theatres started opening up, but soon several states shifted back to a partial lockdown. This led films like Thank You Brother to opt for a digital release as well.
