Anirban Bhattacharya plays Byomkesh Bakshi with Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee as Ajit and Sohini Sarkar, Satyabati in Hoichoi’s web series.
It seems it is the season of Byomkesh Bakshi. After the release of Dev’s Byomkesh O Durgo Rohoshyo on August 11, the teaser of Srijit Mukherji’s web series based on the same novel, Durgo Rawhoshyo, was dropped on Sunday afternoon. Anirban Bhattacharya plays Byomkesh Bakshi with Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee as Ajit and Sohini Sarkar, Satyabati in Hoichoi’s web series which is part of their Best of Bengal section. According to sources, the series will be dropped around Puja.
The teaser introduces us to the fort where the mystery thickens. It also gives us a glimpse of the legends that are associated with the fort. Byomkesh, aka Anirban, in a brief dialogue, tells Ajit (Rahu), “Everybody seeks truth. However, the truth varies from person to person.”
The teaser also shows that Satyabati has become a mother with a baby on her lap. In the original Byomkesh novel, Satyabati is depicted as a pregnant woman who stays out of the adventure. However, in Birsa Dasgupta’s Byuomkesh O Durgo Rohoshyo, Rukmini Maitra plays Satyabati in a re-structures script. In Srijit’s Byomkesh, Sohini plays the character.
It has already been widely reported that Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s Durgo Rohoshyo had created a rift between Srijit and Dev. The film rights of this novel lie with Shadow Films. Initially, it was reported that Srijit would direct that film. Dev wished to play Byomkesh Bakshi, but the director wanted Anirban Bhattacharya to play the character. Later, Dev joined hands with Shadow Films to co-produce Durgo Rohoshyo with a new director, Birsa. Srijit tied up with Hoichoi for a web series as the platform owns the digital rights to the story. However, after the shooting of the film and the series, both Dev and Srijit took positive efforts to bridge their distance. It has been announced that Srijit will work with Dev and Rukmini in Dev’s production house. In fact, Srijit Anirban and Sohini were present at the trailer launch of Dev’s film.
