Durgo Rawhoshyo: Anirban Bhattacharya to retire as Byomkesh Bakshi after Srijit Mukherji’s web series

With Sohini Sarkar as Satyabati and Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee as Ajit, Durgo Rawhoshyo will be released on Hoichoi on October 19

Anirban Bhattacharya started his journey as Byomkesh Bakshi in 2017. With the release of Srijit Mukherji’s Durgo Rawhoshyo, the actor draws a curtain to his illustrious portrayal of Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s iconic detective character. Until Season Eight, 13 stories were adapted. With the 14th story, Durgo Rawhoshyo, Anirban’s journey as Byomkesh comes to an end. With Sohini Sarkar as Satyabati and Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee as Ajit, Durgo Rawhoshyo will be released on Hoichoi on October 19.

While talking at an event on Monday, Anirban thanked all his directors and co-actors and actresses for this journey. Earlier, while talking about Durgo Rawhoshyo, he mentioned that Srijit’s choice of story helped him come out of the monotonicity of a character like Byomkesh, who has a very specific lifestyle. He also thanked his co-actress Ridhima Ghosh who has played Satyabati in eight seasons. Anirban also thanked Arindam Sil for visualising the actor as Byomkesh. “Arindamda proposed the idea of making me Byomkesh Bakshi. He was there during the look-set of the first season of Byomkesh Bakshi,” he said. Sayantan Ghosal directed the first season in 2017.

Meanwhile, Sohini Sarkar, who plays Satyabati in Srijit’s Durgo Rawhoshyo, said, “I have been playing Satyabati against Abir Chatterjee in Arindal Sil’s Byomkesh Bakshi on the big screen. There have been four films so far. When Srijitda offered me the role, I asked him if viewers would accept me as Satyabati with Anirban as they are used to seeing me with Abirda.” Srijit was sure to make her Byomkesh’s wife. “He said that he liked my portrayal as Satyabati. This coming from Srijitda is a big compliment as he is not known for being appreciative,” she joked.

Srijit was also present at the do and said, “I was supposed to direct the film. But the actor I imagined to be Byomkesh did not work out. Anirban has always been in my imagination as Byomkesh and hence the web series is made ‘on my own terms’.
