Wrapping up the box office haul this year are two movies that were the most anticipated films and also featuring big stars with a massive crowd pull. Shah Rukh Khan is in theaters right now with Dunki, while Prabhas is beating bad men to a pulp in Salaar: Part One – Ceasefire. However, in an unexpected twist, the Rajkumar Hirani directorial that marks the third outing for King Khan this year has turned out to be the weakest of the SRK’s three films in terms of box office performance. The day 7 collection of Dunki is now in a single digit, and that might be a cause for concern.

For any other movie, the box office numbers that Dunki is pulling off could be very good, even winning, but for Shah Rukh Khan, who has set most of the box office records this year, this is not in sync with the last two films. As per the latest reports flowing in, the collection of Dunki on day 7 has yet again seen a drop. The numbers on Tuesday for both Dunki and Salaar saw a fall, and that could be because of the end of a long weekend.

As per early estimates, Dunki earned Rs 9.81 crore at the domestic box office on day 7, and this is the first time since the release the movie has rung in a single-digit collection. However, it has already managed to regain its making cost and stands at a collection over Rs 150 crore. The film stands at Rs 151.32 crore in India, entering the Rs 150-crore club. While it has definitely broken many records and is on a decent track, it still isn’t at par with Jawan and Pathaan, which were busy minting double digits much beyond the first week.

If combined with the overseas collection, after day 6, Dunki stood at Rs 283 crore worldwide. This means it is marching towards Rs 300 crore and should cross it by the time the numbers for day 7 are out. The movie starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar, Anil Kapoor, Boman Irani, and an ensemble cast is expected to have a decent run at the theaters for the next few days.

The movie has been receiving mixed reviews from critics and the audience. An excerpt from the OTTplay review of Dunki read, "What happens beyond that is what punches 'Dunki' in the gut. The world is now established, motivation is served, and a trigger is placed, but what next? The film is about 'Dunki,' the Donkey route. The desert you saw in the promotional content, the extremely difficult route that was teased, and the constant mention of how haunting and tough it is—everything boils down to 10 minutes, and the group is in England. We are never allowed to be on that side of the story for long enough to look at it as the hook. It vaguely comes back in the narrative and does nothing because there is no connection that has been formed with it.”

Stay tuned to OTTplay for more on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
