Dune: Prophecy season 2 confirmed! HBO announces second season right before finale

Dune: Prophecy has fast become one of the most successful shows of the year and now the streamer has confirmed a second season.

Dune: Prophecy renewed for season 2

There is no doubt that HBO has had a supremely successful 2024, especially in the second half of the year. The streamer began the latter half with House Of The Dragon Season 2, followed by The Penguin and ended with a “chef’s kiss” by bringing us Dune: Prophecy. Based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s work Sisterhood Of Dune, the show stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and Tabu in leading roles. Set over 10,000 years before Paul Atreides' reign in the Dune films, the show has quickly become one of the most loved of the year. Its success has led the streamer to confidently commission a second season.

Dune: Prophecy Renewed For Season 2

You read that right. After months of anticipation, Dune: Prophecy premiered on November 20 on Max and JioCinema (in India). With one episode releasing every Monday, the season finale is set to air this Monday, December 23. Amidst the euphoria and fan theories surrounding the finale, the streamer has officially confirmed the renewal for Season 2. While the decision was anticipated, the confirmation has still excited fans.

Max's official Instagram handle shared an announcement reel featuring glimpses of Dune: Prophecy. The reel fades into Valya’s face before the Season 2 confirmation appears on the screen. The caption reads, “The saga continues. The HBO Original Series #DuneProphecy has been renewed for Season 2 on Max.” Season 1 has Alison Schapker as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Diane Ademu-John, who co-developed and serves as an executive producer. While there’s no confirmation about the creative team or full cast for Season 2, the leading actors are expected to reprise their roles.

The official synopsis on HBO's website reads: “From the expansive universe of Dune created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces threatening humanity’s future and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.” The show is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

The cast includes Emily Watson as Valya, Olivia Williams as Tula, Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, Tabu as Sister Francesca, and Mark Strong as Emperor Corrino, among others.
