Just when we thought we were about to go on a break after the happy shock that The Penguin left us with, HBO did not let us even breathe as they released another massive show derived from a very successful film franchise. Yes, we are talking about Dune: Prophecy, a show about the Sisterhood that went on to be known as the Bene Gesserit and is set some 10,000 years before the events of the movies. Episode one of the much-anticipated show, led by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, and also starring Tabu, aired this week, leaving the audience taken aback by a climax that chose to kill not one but two pivotal characters in the first episode itself. You read that right— all of this at the hands of one man who is probably the biggest mystery of the season, Desmond Hart.

So we saw how Desmond Hart was the only man to have returned from the expedition to Arrakis. He claims that the Fremen did not kill his men but that the allies of the Imperium did. Emperor Corrino stands with Reverend Mother Kasha by his side, forming the base of his governance. However, as soon as Desmond Hart enters and looks at Kasha standing by the throne, his gaze hints at something very wrong brewing in his head. However, he does not let his vicious intentions take the front seat and win the trust of the family and the court members. We soon realize that Desmond did not just survive the Fremen or the Allies but also a Sandworm attack after being swallowed by one. Yes!

This establishes that there is something strange about him, and it is further solidified in the climax of the first episode. When the Emperor says he would like to be freed from the wedding, he approaches Pruwet Richese, the nine-year-old boy who has just married the Emperor’s daughter. Pruwet, awakened by a dream, listens as Hart tells him that a war is being waged by an enemy who has managed to make themselves indispensable. Hart is, of course, referring to the Sisterhood. Next, Hart confirms he has powers and grills Pruwet alive with them, killing him. The impact of this magic also reaches Kasha, who dies in the same way. There is no clarity yet about what his powers are, but one thing is clear: he is a threat to the Sisterhood.
