Anya Taylor Joy Has A Bigger Role In Dune Messiah

The world is eagerly anticipating what Denis Villeneuve and Warner Bros. are preparing with their third Dune movie in the trilogy, which is one of the most anticipated films worldwide. While it's only been a few months since the release of Dune: Part Two fans are already clamoring for Dune: Messiah, also known as Dune 3. Although the film is still far from beginning production and even further from hitting theaters, theories about what will happen are already circulating online. Fans are speculating wildly, while those who have read the books smile knowingly at the theories. The makers have confirmed the third film, but additional updates are still scarce. However, Denis Villeneuve has now shared some key insights about the third movie.

Dune Messiah To Have Anya Taylor-Joy In A Big Role

The Dune universe was introduced to us at a time when we were mostly confined to our homes, providing an escape into a world where people travel and fight across planets in a time far beyond our comprehension. The second movie, in particular, showcased the rise of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as King. It also briefly introduced Anya Taylor-Joy as Paul’s sister, Alia Atreides, though her appearance was just a cameo. It turns out she will have a much larger role in Dune: Messiah. Read on to learn more.

According to Comic Book Movie Dune director Denis Villeneuve discussed the movies and how he has shaped the franchise. Interestingly, Villeneuve stated that he never saw Dune as a trilogy, which is somewhat surprising considering it has become one. The director views each film as a standalone story, distinct from the others, and has succeeded in maintaining this approach.

"First, it's important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych," Villeneuve says of the first two movies. "It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity."

During this conversation, Villeneuve confirmed that Anya Taylor-Joy will return to portray Alia Atreides in Dune: Messiah and she will have a much larger role. Fans of the Dune novels know how important Alia is and the significant impact she has on the future of the franchise. It will be intriguing to see if the filmmakers stick closely to the source material and give Alia the weight she carries in the books, or if they opt to reduce her importance. However, with an actress as prominent as Anya Taylor-Joy in the role, the likelihood of a major part seems high.

Both Dune films are available to watch on JioCinema in India. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
