Dune 2 box office collection day 3 - The Timothée Chalamet-starrer was always touted to be a box office monster but who would have thought it will crush Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Dune 2 Box Office Collection Day 3: Cinema has been flourishing at Godspeed since last year, and we hope the streak continues as we see maverick filmmakers all lining up at the big screen to release their movies, films making box office collections that are breaking records, and even some massive stars coming back. Dune: Part Two, which released last Friday, has decided to take the baton ahead as it has now collected a monstrous box office collection in the first weekend of its release, and there is no stopping this Denis Villeneuve directorial that stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in the leading parts. The movie was one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and the collection is enough to tell you the demand.
It was already known that Dune: Part Two, aka Dune 2, would be a winner when it comes to box office because even the preview that happened befor e the official release brought $12 million, and that was enough for us to track the estimates. Turns out the global opening of Dune 2 has now written box office history, and there is no way the movie is now slowing down. The film has managed to earn a domestic opening of $81.5 million as per Deadline and has stood true to estimates that said a number between $80 million to $85 million.
If that is not exciting enough for you, the movie has managed to collect an international sum of $97 million overseas, and that brings the total collection of Dune: Part Two, aka Dune 2, to a staggering $178.5 million. That means Dune 2 in the first weekend has debuted with a collection that is close to $200 million already and is still counting and with a very strong hold on the box office.
This is certainly not the first time this month. Dune: Part Two with the paid early previews in the domestic market has already beaten Christopher Nolan's ambitious Oppenheimer with its $12 million collection. The Cillian Murphy starrer, however, had only collected $10 million. Turns out the Timothée Chalamet starrer has now beaten the 2023 hit machine yet again with the first-weekend debut. Oppenheimer in the first weekend had earned $174 million at the global box office. And now with a $178 million global debut, Dune: Part Two has left Oppenheimer behind by $4 million.
The demand for Dune: Part Two is immense across the world. In India, the advance booking was on fire, and that has now resulted in the movie wrapping up its debut weekend with a Rs 11 crore collection at the Indian box office. With good word of mouth and great reviews, the movie is expected to grow more than this, and the second week will have even better numbers.
Made at a budget of $190 million, Dune: Part Two has already covered the investment almost and is not far from breaking even if it manages the same speed. The sci-fi epic will open in Japan and China next week, and those are two big territories that will bring big numbers. Warner Bros, as per the Rotten Tomatoes report, is expected to have a billion-dollar haul from parts one and two. This means Dune 2 will have to make $600 million as the first part brought $400 million even amid the pandemic.
Whether it manages to achieve that number or not is in the future. Right now, Dune 2 is in the theaters near you. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
