The investigative thriller, which is scripted by Bobby and Sanjay, was initially scheduled to hit theatres in January
Dulquer Salmaan’s next Malayalam film Salute is set to be first direct-to-OTT release. The makers of the investigative thriller, which is scripted by Bobby-Sanjay duo and helmed by Rosshan Andrrews, have confirmed that the film will release directly on a streaming platform this month.
The movie, which has Dulquer playing a cop, was initially scheduled to hit theatres on January 13, but was postponed due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Kerala and the threat of the Omicron variant.
It is now confirmed that the team has opted to release the movie directly on Sony LIV. The film is also expected to stream on the platform this month. Salute, which is also produced by Dulquer, also marks the Malayalam debut of Bollywood actress Diana Penty and has Manoj K Jayan, Vijayaraghavan, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy and Saikumar in pivotal roles.
The decision, however, comes as a huge surprise, considering theatres in Kerala have begun to operate at 100% capacity from March, unlike when its initial release was planned. Salute had completed shooting last year with Kerala and Hyderabad being its main locations.
Meanwhile, Dulquer’s latest release is the romcom Hey Sinamika, which also has Aditi Rao Hydari and Kajal Aggarwal as the female protagonists. The Tamil-Telugu bilingual, directed by Brinda, hit theatres on March 3. The Malayalam star has also finished shooting for R Balki’s Chup and is currently working on Hanu Raghavapudi’s untitled trilingual, which also has Mrunal Thakur and Rashmika Mandanna.
He is also set for his webseries debut with Guns and Gulaabs . The Netflix series, directed by The Family Man creators Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, is set in the world of crime and mashes genres of romance and comedy. Dulquer wrapped up shooting his portions last month. The series also has Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav as part of its lead cast.
